The inner core of this piece is a spool that is from a 1967 Toronto mill. One of those things someone (like me . . who may have tendencies leaning towards the hoarder) who hangs on to . . "perhaps too" many things as a potential for further use . . .
The base of this piece is a knitted sock my mother made when I was in my teens. I've carried it around for nearly 30 years! Now it is re-visioned as part of the Distorts Series of sculptures.
Layers and layers of mohair wool used to begin the bulk of this work.It took many weeks of alterations and additions to finally say this one is "finished".
A form that began with the recycling of a shower curtain ring and developed from there.It required fibre fill stuffing to give the definition it needed to see its completion.
